Wickedness in high places .... let's see. Just this week, Roman Polanski's potential extradition to the United States to face charges, which he admitted to, involving the rape of a 13-year-old have been met with celebrity claims that so much time has passed, it isn't worth resolving the matter in the court at this late date. Well, here's cheers to Governor Schwarzenegger who said that he "should be treated like anyone else."
The sexcapades of David Letterman were publicly addressed by the talk show host, but only after attempted blackmail has invaded his private life. Talk about calling the kettle black. Sir, your monologues and insensitive comments riddled with scorn regarding Sarah Palin and her family were, and remain, disgusting and revolting to parents and caring adults everywhere.
Yet another Obama Czar, Kevin Jennings, also admitted having advised a 15-year-old student that the student should use a condom and smile after the young man confided he had been raped by an older man in a bathroom -- and that there were ongoing encounters with this man. Jennings has observed this week that he should have handled this situation differently. Really, you should have. You broke the law in not reporting this incident to authorities to protect this child. And now you are the Safe School Czar?!? (Give me a break, Mr. President.)
One more event unfolded in an American courtroom this week when Elizabeth Smart called her kidnapper, "evil, wicked, manipulative, stinky, slimy, selfish, not spiritual, not religious, not close to God." Miss Smart testified in court about the repeated rapes she endured during her captivity. She has called evil for what it is, hasn't she?
I am saddened that there are so many adults with cavalier attitudes about those who steal the childhood and innocence of a girl or boy, or find it comical to trivialize such horrific theft. Perhaps it should not be surprising to see so much of it in our culture when the very theft of life itself occurs in assaults upon the unborn.
